ATWT vet Larry Bryggman sent packing

Long-time As the World Turns vet Larry Bryggman will exit the show. The 35-year vet will not, as many have speculated, appear on a recurring basis. The show thanked the actor for his years of service.

In a move that is sure to stun longtime viewers, Soap Central has learned that As the World Turns has released Larry Bryggman (John Dixon) from the show. Dixon has been a part of the show for nearly four decades.

"We appreciate the 35 years that Larry has dedicated to As the World Turns," the show's executive producer, Chris Goutman, said in an official statement. "A consummate professional, [h]is portrayal of Dr. John Dixon has been masterful and mesmerizing. We're sorry to see him go."

In his long career, Larry has worked with numerous stage companies such as the Manhattan Theater Club, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Class Company, Second Stage, and the Second Repertory Company. The Tony-nominated Bryggman can currently be seen on Broadway in Twelve Angry Men.

Though no official reason was given for Bryggman's release, there is speculation that the actor's salary was the main issue. Bryggman was reportedly upset when show execs informed him that he'd be dropped to recurring status. As most soap fans already know, shows are trimming their expenses anyway possible in order to live within their ever-shrinking budgets.

A show spokesperson declined to comment if Bryggman would remain with the show on a recurring basis, if the role of John Dixon would be recast or if the role would simply be written out. A setside source, however, reveals that Bryggman is out and will not drop to recurring status.

Bryggman joined that cast of As the World Turns in 1969. He will last air on December 14th.
